The Freshdesk alternative
that does the answering for you.
Outlearn answers your customers for you. It plugs into whatever you already run, reads your documentation where it lives, your Freshworks knowledge base included, and answers in chat, email and Slack. Half the queue never reaches your team: 50.4% of conversations solved end to end, and the hard ones handed to a person with the whole transcript attached.
Your bill is the tell. It has two meters on it: agent seats, plus Freddy AI sessions, and a session is a clock rather than an answer. Freshdesk is a good, mature helpdesk; the bill is just shaped around people reading tickets. Outlearn's has one line, the replies its AI writes, and nothing per agent. Every Freshdesk figure here is quoted from their own pages, with the date we read it.

A Freddy email session is a 72-hour window at $0.49. Outlearn bills the replies its AI actually wrote, and nothing per agent.
Plus 19 more systems, re-read every 30 minutes. Freddy's published sources are URLs, files, solution articles and Q&As, capped at 10 URLs per agent.
It answers you, usually inside a minute. Judge the product on your own question before anyone from sales knows you exist.
Outlearn is an AI support agent that plugs into the systems your company already runs. It reads your documentation where it lives, answers in chat, email and Slack, looks up an order, and hands the hard ones to a person with the whole conversation attached.
Freshdesk is a full helpdesk from Freshworks, used by their claimed 74,000-plus businesses. Ticketing, a customer portal, SLA policies, routing, a knowledge base, and Freddy AI in three separately paid pieces: AI Agent for customers, Copilot for agents, Insights for managers.
Freshdesk charges for agents and meters its AI by the clock. Outlearn charges for AI work and nothing for agents. Every honest Freshdesk alternative comparison comes down to that one difference, and everything below follows from it.

This is Outlearn's add-sources screen, and it is the whole setup ceremony. Freshworks is one of the twenty, in the auto-sync group, which means it keeps re-reading itself after the one click. We add a source a week. You add yours once and that is it.
Where Outlearn and Freshdesk actually differ
01
What changes the week you turn it on
It reads the knowledge you already maintain. No migration project. Outlearn has a Freshworks connector, so the knowledge base your team keeps in Freshdesk becomes the agent's brain as it sits. Nineteen other systems connect the same way: Confluence, SharePoint, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, GitHub, Slack, Teams and more. Everything gets re-read every 30 minutes. Freddy's published Freshdesk sources are URLs, files, solution articles and custom Q&As, capped at 10 URLs per agent.
Somebody asks what your product costs. Outlearn writes the answer out of the Freshworks knowledge base you already keep and pins a 3 Sources chip under it, so anyone can open the articles it read: the receipt, attached. Pass a signed token and the answer is scoped to whoever is asking: public docs for a visitor, their plan's articles for a customer, internal runbooks for an employee. The limit you will find in week two: scoping works on your knowledge base, not on cloud-file connectors, which do not import users, so a Drive answer is not scoped per person.
An Outlearn action is an HTTP call against your own endpoint, with your own auth headers. It looks up the order or checks the subscription mid-conversation, so it does things rather than only saying them. And when a conversation needs a person, it hands off with the whole transcript into Zendesk, Intercom, LiveChat, Slack and others, and files tickets in Zendesk, Freshdesk, HubSpot or Jira.
50.4% of conversations never reach a human. That is measured on our own support, which Outlearn has been answering for months, and your team feels it as subtraction. Most people hunting a Freshdesk alternative are not trying to change helpdesks. They are trying to stop paying people to retype answers that are already written down.

This is the sources dashboard after connecting a single website crawl: 81 snippets, synced 20 minutes ago, and it keeps re-reading on its own. Add as many sources as you want; Freddy's published list caps at 10 URLs per agent. And when part of a source fails to import, it says 4 failed in red rather than quietly answering from half your content.
02
A session is a clock, and a clock is not an outcome
Their Email AI Agent setup page, verbatim: "For Email AI Agents, a session is defined as a 72-hour window starting from the customer's first email. All AI responses within that window count as a single session, regardless of the number of replies." Chat, on a shorter clock: "For Chat AI Agents, all interactions between the end-user and AI Agent within 24 hours from session initiation are counted as one session." Both sentences are on the same page, and neither mentions resolving anything. That is the unit Freddy AI Agent bills.
Read what is absent. Resolved. Deflected. Successful. Those words appear in no session definition on any page of theirs we read. And their exhaustion FAQ? Handing over to a human is what happens once your balance is spent. Not something that gives a session back.
We will not say they charge you when the AI fails, because they never say either way. Their unit counts interactions inside a time window, and they bill sessions for previewing a bot you have not published: "This applies whether the bot is published or unpublished." Zendesk, Intercom and Help Scout all publish an explicit no-charge-on-escalation rule. Freshdesk does not, and neither do we. Ask every Freshdesk alternative on your shortlist how its meter treats a failed answer, starting with us.
03
The 500 free sessions, and the three sentences underneath them
"500 free Freddy AI Agent sessions" is on their pricing page, extra capacity is "$49 per pack of 100 sessions", and the 500 read like a monthly allowance. They are not, and each correction below is theirs.
"500 one-time complimentary sessions", and "Complimentary sessions are a one-time benefit for new customers." Their words, not ours. Once, for new customers only. Not per month, not per year. The Free plan gets none.
Buying sessions deletes the free ones. Verbatim: "Once you purchase an additional Freddy AI Agent session pack, the complimentary sessions are removed and replaced by the purchased sessions." So if you have 300 left and buy 100, you have 100.
And what you do not use, you lose while still paying for it. Verbatim: "Unused sessions do not carry over to the next subscription cycle", and "to avoid being charged for unused sessions, you must explicitly reduce your pack count before the next billing cycle begins." The default is to keep charging for capacity you never touched.
One more, for context. Their own SKU table prices the current pack at $0.49 a session and the legacy pack at $0.10, and lets pre-November-2025 customers stay on it. Nobody is being force-migrated, but new buyers are on a very different rate card from the reviews they read.

This is the unit Outlearn bills: one reply, quoting a real price out of live docs, with a 3 Sources chip underneath so anyone can open the articles it read. Hold that next to a 72-hour session and you have the whole Freshdesk alternative comparison in one screen.
04
What to buy each one for
Start with theirs. Freshdesk is a helpdesk and we are not: ticketing, a customer portal, SLA policies, business hours, routing, collision detection, a sandbox. SAML is on all three paid plans, from $19, where most of this field does worse. Your data is not hostage: ticket and full-account exports are self-serve on every plan including Free. Day passes at $2, $7 or $12 cover a Black Friday spike without buying annual seats. And a per-agent price is predictable in a way that every AI meter, ours included, is not.
Ours is the layer in front of the desk. Outlearn plugs into whatever you already run and needs nothing installed first, so what it changes is how much ever reaches the queue. If the desk itself is what you are replacing, you want a different kind of Freshdesk alternative: another helpdesk. If what you want is fewer conversations reaching the desk at all, that is the job Outlearn was built for, and it starts doing it the day you connect a source.
What ten agents and 1,000 AI answers cost on each
Freshdesk's bill is agents plus session packs. Outlearn's is credits, and headcount is not in it. Any Freshdesk alternative math that hides one of those lines is selling you something, so put your real numbers in the calculator below.
| Line | Freshdesk Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Agent seats billed | None | 10 |
| Seat cost per month | $0 | $550 |
| AI plan or meter | Growth, $199 | $49 per 100 sessions |
| AI cost at 1,000 sessions | included in Growth | $490 |
| Total per month | $199 | $1,040 |
| Free AI allowance | In every plan, monthly | 500 one-time, new customers only |
| Unused allowance | Stays on the plan | Expires, still billed |
| Agent-assist AI for your own team | No | $29 per agent extra |
How we calculated this
Freshdesk is shown on Pro at $55 per agent annual, because Growth cannot buy Copilot and Pro is where most ten-agent teams land; monthly is $66. The AI line is ten session packs at their published $49 per 100. A session is a 72-hour window rather than a resolution, so 1,000 sessions is not 1,000 resolutions, and their unit gets cheaper the more a customer returns inside the window. The 500 complimentary sessions are excluded because their own FAQ calls them a one-time benefit for new customers. Copilot at $29 per agent is listed but not added. Outlearn is on Growth at four AI responses per resolution on a 1-credit model, our assumption rather than measured data, so treat our column as a floor. Run the same math on whatever Freshdesk alternative you are pricing before you buy anything.
Freshdesk pricing verified 8 August 2026 against their own pricing page.
Cost calculator
Credits, tickets and resolutions are not the same unit, which is why comparing these two means building a spreadsheet. Put your numbers in instead.
Outlearn
Growth · 4,000 credits
$199/mo
$0.20 per resolution
Freshdesk
Pro x 10 seats · 10 seats + 10 session packs
$1,040/mo
$1.04 per resolution
That is $841 less than Freshdesk a month, and most of the gap is the seat line, plus an AI meter that bills a 72-hour window rather than an answer. Outlearn charges nothing for agents.
Outlearn bills one credit per AI reply, so your 1,000 resolutions at 4 replies each is 4,000 credits. Freshdesk bills per AI Agent session. Annual billing; a session is a 72-hour window, and unused packs expire. Freshdesk prices checked 8 August 2026, ours 7 August 2026.
Freshdesk on Trustpilot: 156 one-stars, 153 five-stars, almost no middle
Freshdesk holds 1.6 from 405 on Trustpilot, and unlike most helpdesk vendors that corpus really is buyers. G2 and Capterra both blocked us. Read the shape of it before any Freshdesk alternative shortlist gets built on stars.

“I'm a Freshdesk customer. Their AI customer service model 'Freddy' is just a liar and a waste of my time. It just makes stuff up and it's obvious that the human customer support agents have been greatly reduced.”
“Great tool, we use for internal NCR process in manufacturing environment. We use globally in UK, USA and China. Fast, good support and highly customisable.”
“Freshdesk has been an incredible addition to our team. The platform is intuitive, making setup and onboarding effortless. The ticketing system keeps everything organized, while automation saves us from repetitive tasks.”
How we picked these
That 1.6 averages a distribution with barely any middle. Of 405 ratings, 156 are one star and 153 are five, with 33 across the whole of two and three. People either renew for a decade without thinking or leave furious about a bill. Do the plain math on that breakdown and you get near 3.1, not 1.6. The gap is recency: Trustpilot weights new reviews heavily, and the new ones are angry. Angry about what? Mostly billing, and you can check that one yourself on Freshworks' own pages, where cancellations only take effect at the end of a term.
How to put a Freshdesk alternative to the test
- 1
Keep the desk. Connect the knowledge
Connect the knowledge base your team already maintains and it is answering customers the same day, staying current as your team edits it. That is the first test of any Freshdesk alternative: it should use what you already have, not ask you to move anything.
- 2
Add the systems Freddy's list does not name
Confluence, SharePoint, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, GitHub, Slack and Teams. Freddy's published sources cap at 10 URLs per agent.
- 3
Turn on identity before you judge anything
Pass a signed token and Outlearn scopes each answer to the customer asking, their plan's articles and nothing above them. Do this before scoring it against Freddy, because an unscoped agent answers a trial user and an enterprise admin alike, and that failure never shows up in a demo.
- 4
Count units honestly, in both directions
Freddy bills one session per 72-hour window however many replies happen inside it; Outlearn bills every reply. Take a hundred real conversations and count both. It is the only honest way to price a Freshdesk alternative.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Freshdesk alternative in 2026?
It depends which half you are replacing.
For the desk itself, meaning inbox, queue and SLA policies, compare other helpdesks; Outlearn is not one. For the AI layer that answers before the desk gets involved, Outlearn is the Freshdesk alternative built for exactly that: twenty systems read live, re-read every 30 minutes, nothing charged per agent, and half of conversations solved without a person.
How much does Freshdesk cost?
On annual billing it is $19 per agent for Growth, $55 for Pro and $89 for Enterprise; monthly, off their own cards, $23, $66 and $107.
Their free program runs six months and caps at two agents. On top of seats: Freddy AI Agent sessions at $49 per 100, Copilot at $29 per agent annual or $35 monthly and not sold to Growth, Insights on Enterprise only, connector tasks at $80 per 5,000. Price any Freshdesk alternative against all of those lines, not the seat price alone.
How is Freshdesk's Freddy AI Agent metered, and does a failed answer cost me?
Freddy bills a session, and a session is a window rather than an outcome: 72 hours from the customer's first email, every AI response inside it counting as one.
Chat runs on a 24-hour clock. Freshworks publishes no exemption for conversations the AI cannot resolve, and no statement of the reverse either, so we will not put words in their mouth. Previewing your own bot consumes sessions, published or unpublished. Outlearn bills every reply including the misses, so neither meter is the clean one here. Whatever Freshdesk alternative you land on, read its unit definition before you sign.
Are Freshdesk's 500 free Freddy sessions monthly?
No.
Their words are "500 one-time complimentary sessions" and "a one-time benefit for new customers", so it is a trial allowance rather than a monthly one. Buying a pack removes whatever is left. Unused sessions do not carry over either: their docs say you must explicitly reduce your pack count before the next cycle begins to avoid being charged for them. The Free plan gets none at all. Weigh that before comparing any Freshdesk alternative on its free allowance.
Does Freshdesk gate SSO behind an Enterprise plan?
No, and it is one of the better things about their pricing.
Their feature matrix ticks single sign-on on all three paid plans, so SAML starts at $19 per agent, where a lot of Freshdesk alternatives hold it back for Enterprise.
Keep the desk. Change what answers first
Point Outlearn at your Freshworks knowledge base and the systems Freddy's list does not name, then compare on your own questions. No seats to buy, no session packs, no card. Or skip the signup entirely: email support@outlearn.com right now, and the reply you get is the product, usually inside a minute. That is how to judge any Freshdesk alternative, on your own traffic rather than a demo.

Switching from something else?
Switch from Zendesk
A fair AI meter, exports switched off until you ask, and a bill that counts agents. Outlearn reads your Guide in place.
Switch from ManyChat
ManyChat bills every person you can reach, because Instagram marketing is the job. Outlearn bills the answers it writes.
Switch from Chatbase
Both take real actions. Only Outlearn reads Confluence, SharePoint and Drive, and scopes each answer to what that customer may see.
