Comparison
The Chatbase alternative
that keeps the queue moving and escalates the hard ones.
Outlearn is an AI support agent that reads your documentation where it already lives, in Confluence, Google Drive, SharePoint or your helpdesk, and answers your customers wherever they ask. Connect a source once and it stays current on its own. Your team takes the exceptions. The agent takes the queue.
The difference from Chatbase shows up around month six, when your documentation has moved on and your traffic has doubled. This page is about which product still does what you agreed to on that day, with both prices and both weaknesses in plain sight.

- Escalates instead of inventing
Your knowledge is connected, not uploaded. Customers get the doc as it reads right now, not as it read at import.
A trial user, a paying customer and an employee ask the same question and get three correct answers.
It hands the conversation to a person with the full transcript rather than guessing at your policy.
Outlearn plugs into the systems your company already runs and answers customers from what's already written there. It works in chat, email and Slack, does things like looking up an order, and hands the hard ones to a person with the whole conversation attached.
Chatbase is a platform for building AI chat agents. Point it at your website, upload some files, pick a model, embed the widget. It's popular, genuinely well built, and the cheapest serious option in this category. If it fits you, buy it.
Chatbase learns from a copy of your documentation that you upload. Outlearn reads the original, wherever it lives, and re-reads it when it changes. Every honest Chatbase alternative comparison comes down to that one difference, and everything below follows from it.
Short answer
Pick Outlearn if your documentation moves. It reads Confluence, SharePoint, Google Drive and your helpdesk directly, so when someone edits a policy the answers change with it. Nobody re-uploads anything.
The rest of the Chatbase alternatives are one product with eight names. Every other Chatbase alternative on your shortlist is a chatbot builder pointed at a website and fed uploads: Botpress, eesel, Chatling, Botsonic, SiteGPT, Fini, LiveChatAI, BoldDesk. Their pros and cons are roughly each other's, which is why comparing them feature by feature gets you nowhere.

Where Outlearn and Chatbase actually differ
01
What support looks like after you switch
Your customers get answers at 3am that are correct at 3am, because the agent read this morning's docs, not March's upload. Half the queue never touches a human. 50.4% of conversations solved end to end, and you stop paying us for a conversation the moment it hands off.
It answers with the number, not an article about the number. Outlearn calls your APIs mid-conversation for an order status, a subscription state, a license key, a Salesforce record or a Stripe charge. The refund moves while the customer is still typing their thanks.
And the conversations that need judgment land on your team in Zendesk, Intercom, LiveChat, Slack or four others, transcript and summary attached, so nobody opens with "can you repeat that from the beginning."
Your team takes the exceptions. The agent takes the queue. That's the entire pitch. Everything else on this page is proof.
02
Nobody babysits the bot
You connect. It keeps reading. Confluence, Google Drive, SharePoint, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, GitHub, Gmail, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce and five helpdesk knowledge bases. Outlearn reads the originals and re-reads them every thirty minutes, so the price you change at 4pm is the price the agent quotes at 4:30. No export, no re-upload, no ticket to whoever owns the bot.
That job where somebody's week goes on keeping the help center true? It stops existing. Your documentation gets maintained by the people doing the work, as a side effect of them doing it.
This matters because a stale agent doesn't throw an error. It answers anyway. Confidently. Connected sources make that failure mode structurally impossible, which is worth more than any accuracy percentage we could print.
Chatbase learns from what you upload, and its docs list the formats plainly: pdf, txt, doc, docx. A perfectly good model when your content sits still. Outlearn is built for content that moves, and support content moves.
03
The right answer for whoever is asking
A trial user, a paying customer and one of your own engineers ask the same question. On Outlearn each gets the correct answer for who they are: the public docs, their plan's articles, the internal runbook. It reads groups and per-article permissions straight out of your knowledge base, so enterprise answers stop leaking to trial accounts and internal notes stay internal.
The limit, because you'll find it in week two anyway: scoping works where we can read the user and group model, today your knowledge base. The cloud-file connectors don't import users, so anything pulled from Google Drive or SharePoint isn't scoped per person. Put the runbooks that need scoping in the knowledge base, not in a Drive folder.
Chatbase doesn't scope answers per user, so most teams keep internal content out of it entirely. A reasonable workaround. It also means the agent permanently knows less than your team does, which is a strange ceiling to buy on purpose.

This is the sources dashboard after connecting, here with a single website crawl; add as many sources as you want, a helpdesk, a Drive folder, a repo. Your agent is never more than half an hour behind any of them, and when a source half-imports it says so out loud, because an agent quietly answering from half your content is the one failure you'd never catch yourself.
04
Buy for month six, not for the demo
Every AI support agent demos beautifully. That is not the hard part. The hard part is the bill and the plan holding their shape after your traffic doubles, and that's exactly where Chatbase's recent one-star reviews cluster: the plan people signed up for is not the plan they ended up on. The quotes are further down, in their customers' own words.
Here's ours, out loud: we have a meter too. Outlearn bills per AI reply and a more expensive model costs more per reply, exactly like Chatbase's credits do, one reply costing between one and six of them depending on the model, and plan credits you don't use reset each month, though extra credit packs you buy roll over until used. Anyone telling you their AI support tool has no meter is selling you a rounding error you haven't found yet.
So ask every Chatbase alternative on your shortlist, us included, two questions: what does one resolution cost at my volume, on the model I'd really run? And which things in this plan can you remove later without my agreement? The calculator below answers the first one for both of us.
05
What is Outlearn missing?
No fixed branching scripts. Chatbase's Procedures feature runs a refund down the same fifteen-step path every time. Outlearn's agent reasons over its tools instead, which is better for open-ended questions and worse when every step has to be identical.
No native agent inbox, because Outlearn isn't a helpdesk. It hands off into Zendesk, Intercom, LiveChat, Slack and four others with the full transcript attached.
If fixed scripts or a built-in inbox is the heart of your workflow, we're the wrong alternative and Chatbase is the better buy. We'd rather say that here than read it in a churn survey.

This is how you give Outlearn an action: your API endpoint, your headers, and a plain-English sentence saying when to use it. Refunds, order lookups, license resets. The agent decides at runtime like a person would, so there's no rules tree to maintain and no ticket to file with us when your process changes.
06
So why is Outlearn more expensive?
Because reading 20 live systems every day costs more than reading a folder somebody uploaded once.
At the top self-serve tier Chatbase charges $0.0267 a credit and we charge $0.0399. Same unit on both sides, so the gap is real and not a packaging trick.
If nobody on your team is currently babysitting a knowledge base, that difference buys you nothing. If somebody is, it is the cheapest headcount you will ever save.
What 1,000 resolutions a month cost on each
Sticker prices are fiction in this category, which is why every Chatbase alternative page that leads with one is selling you something. Both of us bill credits per AI reply, so the whole answer depends on how many replies a solved conversation takes. Four is a fair guess. Yours might be two, or eight. Change it below and watch both numbers move.
| Plan needed | Chatbase | |
|---|---|---|
| Tier | Growth | Standard |
| Monthly credits | 4,500 | 4,000 |
| Monthly cost | $199 | $120 |
| Effective cost per resolution | $0.20 | $0.12 |
| Overage | $40 per 1,000-credit pack, unused packs roll over | $40 per 1,000 credits |
| Remove vendor branding | Included on Scale, $599/mo | $1,188/year add-on |
| Free tier | 100 credits/mo | 50 credits/mo |
How we calculated this
One resolution is assumed to take four AI responses at one credit each, which is our assumption and not either vendor's data. At two responses per resolution Outlearn drops to Starter at $99 and Chatbase to Hobby at $32; at eight, Outlearn rises to Scale at $599 and Chatbase to Pro at $400. Both of us charge more per reply on a more expensive model, which multiplies every figure here, so treat this table as the floor rather than the bill. Run the same math on whatever Chatbase alternative you're pricing before you buy anything. Chatbase prices are the annual-billing default.
Chatbase pricing verified 7 August 2026 against their own pricing page.
Cost calculator
Credits, tickets and resolutions are not the same unit, which is why comparing these two means building a spreadsheet. Put your numbers in instead.
Outlearn
Growth · 4,000 credits
$199/mo
$0.20 per resolution
Chatbase
Standard · 4,000 credits
$120/mo
$0.12 per resolution
Chatbase is $79 less at this volume. Their per-credit rate is lower because they read a folder you uploaded once. Ours reads 20 live systems every day.
Outlearn bills one credit per AI reply, so your 1,000 resolutions at 4 replies each is 4,000 credits. Chatbase bills per AI response. Chatbase prices checked 7 August 2026, ours 7 August 2026.
Chatbase reviews, in their customers' words
Every Chatbase alternative page shows you a star rating, and a rating without its review count is marketing. Here are both, plus the quotes underneath. Outlearn has no listing yet, so that row says so instead of quietly not existing.

“Usage costs have tripled and features from the plans have disappeared. They have unilaterally changed the terms and conditions.”
“Over time they remove features you'd paid for because they want to charge more per customer.”
“The escalation logic is what actually made this work for us. Chatbase summarizes the full conversation and routes to the right agent based on issue type and customer tier. Our CSAT on handed-off tickets jumped 18 points.”
“I reached out about my subscription and got a fast, clear, human reply. No runaround.”
How we picked these
Two of those four are five stars, and that's on purpose. Chatbase's Trustpilot score climbed from about 2.1 to 3.8 across 2026 and the recent reviews credit fast, human support. They fixed that. The repricing is why the two one-star quotes are both from this year.
What support teams say on Reddit
You're going to go read Reddit about this anyway. Everybody does. So here it is, quoted straight and linked: what a messy knowledge base does to any AI agent, why teams insist the model learns from their tickets and nobody else's, and one thread, started by someone hunting a Chatbase alternative, where a Chatbase engineer is more honest than most marketing pages manage.
“If your knowledge base is messy, AI won't magically fix it.”
“An Azure AI model trained on our tickets (AND ONLY YOURS).”
“I do want to be real about the hallucination point. We were basically the first RAG-based AI solution on the market and have been tightening our retrieval system longer than others, but I'm not going to sit here and say it's perfect. More work to be done. Support speed is also something we know we need to improve.”

We link out rather than paraphrasing, because a quote you can't check is worth nothing. Credit to that Chatbase engineer for answering straight in a thread that wasn't going their way.
How to switch from Chatbase
- 1
Point it at the same stuff
Same site, same files. Then connect the Confluence, Drive or SharePoint that Chatbase could never see. That gap is why most people go hunting for a Chatbase alternative in the first place, and those sources keep reading themselves.
- 2
Rebuild the actions
Most map across one for one. Anything unusual becomes a plain HTTP action with your own auth headers, so nobody waits on us to build an integration.
- 3
Turn on identity
Pass a signed token from your app and every answer gets scoped to that customer. Do this before you judge answer quality, because it's the part Chatbase can't do at all.
- 4
Run both for a week
Leave Chatbase running. Same questions, both agents, your real customers. The trial is 14 days, no card, which is plenty of time to find out on your own questions.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Chatbase alternative in 2026?
It depends why you're leaving.
If Chatbase can't reach your docs in Confluence, SharePoint, Google Drive or a helpdesk knowledge base, Outlearn is the Chatbase alternative built for that specific gap. If you're leaving on price, we cost more per credit, and the calculator on this page will show you how much more at your volume.
Is Outlearn cheaper than Chatbase?
No.
Chatbase is cheaper at every tier: $0.0267 a credit against our $0.0399, and $32 entry against our $99. Any Chatbase alternative telling you otherwise is hiding the credit math. What the extra buys is 20 live connectors and per-user permission scoping, so the question is whether either is worth the difference at your volume.
Can Chatbase read Confluence, SharePoint or Google Drive?
No, and this is the gap most people hunting a Chatbase alternative arrive here for.
Chatbase's file support is four upload formats, so anything in those systems has to be exported by hand and re-uploaded every time it changes. Outlearn reads all three live, along with OneDrive, Box, Dropbox and GitHub, and re-reads them every 30 minutes.
Why does every Chatbase alternative list name the same eight tools?
Because they're the same product.
Botpress, eesel, Chatling, Botsonic, SiteGPT, Fini, LiveChatAI and BoldDesk are all chatbot builders pointed at a website and fed uploads, so their pros and cons are each other's. Outlearn is the odd one out on that list: it connects to the systems your documentation lives in and re-reads them every 30 minutes, which is either the whole point or irrelevant, depending on whether your docs move.
How much does Chatbase cost, and what is a credit?
Their published tiers are Free at 50 credits, Hobby $32 for 700, Standard $120 for 4,000 and Pro $400 for 15,000, on annual billing.
A credit is one AI reply, and one reply costs between one and six credits depending on the model you pick. Unused credits don't roll over. Overage runs $40 per 1,000 credits.
Can I migrate my data off Chatbase?
There's nothing to export in the usual sense.
Both platforms index your source content rather than owning it, so migrating means pointing Outlearn at the same website and files, then connecting the systems Chatbase never reached. Most teams are answering questions the same day.
Does Outlearn replace Chatbase completely?
For knowledge-based support, yes, with two gaps.
Chatbase has a native agent inbox and Outlearn doesn't: we hand off into Zendesk, Intercom, Slack, LiveChat and four others rather than replacing your helpdesk. And Chatbase's Procedures feature has no Outlearn equivalent if you need fixed, branching scripts.
Does Outlearn or Chatbase have better AI models?
Neither, meaningfully.
Outlearn exposes 38 models across four providers; Chatbase offers a wider provider list plus a side-by-side compare mode. Model choice isn't the differentiator between these two, but it's the biggest single lever on your bill, so pick it before you compare prices and ask both of us what a reply on that model costs.
Try it on your own traffic
Point Outlearn at the same content Chatbase reads today, then connect the sources it never could. Compare answers side by side; Chatbase can keep running while you decide. Start on the free tier, no card, and nobody from sales calls you. Or don't even sign up: email support@outlearn.com right now, and the reply you get is the product. That's how to judge any Chatbase alternative: on your traffic, not on a demo.

Switching from something else?
Switch from Freshdesk
A mature, cheap helpdesk priced per agent, with SSO on its entry plan. Outlearn charges nothing per seat.
Switch from Zendesk
A fair AI meter, exports switched off until you ask, and a bill that counts agents. Outlearn reads your Guide in place.
Switch from ManyChat
ManyChat bills every person you can reach, because Instagram marketing is the job. Outlearn bills the answers it writes.
